Bay 101 – Six Low-Flow Stormwater Pump Stations
The new Bay 101 casino required 6 stormwater pump stations to handle low flows of stormwater in San Jose, California. Each pump station will help serve new hotels as this casino facility expands. These pump stations needed to meet the low flow requirements while maintaining consistent head conditions. To achieve this, Romtec Utilities engineered four of the pump stations with 1/3 hp Goulds pumps in a simplex configuration. Another pump station was designed with a 1/2 hp pump, and the final pump station included a 1.5 hp submersible pump. These pumps, combined with 1.5” discharge piping, met the system’s design criteria without the need for any additional equipment. The electrical controls operate on single phase power, which can be appropriate in stormwater applications. The controls are housed in Adalet enclosures and use NOLTA floats for liquid level sensing.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
HMH, the project engineer, originally contacted Romtec Utilities for the design of six stormwater pump stations. Once we were involved with the project, HMH and Romtec Utilities started working with the general contractor, Barry Swenson Builder. Barry Swenson Builder purchased the pump station directly from Romtec Utilities after the design was approved by HMH. We then manufactured and supplied the pump station and worked with Preston Pipelines, a subcontractor to the GC, on the installation of the pump stations. Once installed, a Romtec Utilities technician commissioned all 6 systems and provided onsite training for operating personnel. Romtec Utilities was the easiest way to get multiple pump stations to meet the site’s unique pumping conditions in a single purchase.
