Gossamer Grove – Multi-Phase Residential Development

Project Assets

Project Description

Romtec Utilities designed and supplied a new lift station to meet current and future sewage flows from a large residential development in Shafter, California. The initial system design uses 7.5 hp Xylem pumps in a triplex configuration to meet the flow from the first phase of the development. Discharge elbows inside the wet well accommodate these pumps, and they can also accommodate 25 hp pumps that can be upgraded during future phases. When the development is complete, the peak inflow to the system is anticipated to be over 2,000 gpm of wastewater. A 30,000 gallon fiberglass overflow tank was installed for temporary storage to mitigate the discharge of sewage to the downstream water treatment plant. Romtec Utilities also provided a new control building where electrical controls for the lift station and the chemical feed odor control system could be safely located.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities

Gossamer Grove is the largest housing development in the City of Shafter. Romtec Utilities provided the wastewater lift station for this development after establishing a standard lift station configuration with the City on previous projects. This project presented unique design challenges due to the increasing flow requirements as Lennar, the developer, continued to build houses through multiple phases. We worked with Quad Knopf, the engineer, to design this lift station in two phases. The first phase handles the initial flow requirements, but it has the ability to handle future flow requirements through simple upgrades. Once the design was finalized and approved Brown Contractors installed the lift station. Romtec Utilities onsite technician commissioned the lift station and provided training for the owners and operators of the system. This project exemplifies the best practices for a growing city to implement to work through current and future growth with its sewer infrastructure.
