Georgia Pacific – Stormwater Pump Station
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied a pump station to manage high flows of stormwater for a gypsum wood board plant in Antioch, California. Romtec Utilities used 20 hp Ebara submersible pumps to meet the high flow/medium head requirements of this pumping application. The high volume of stormwater being handled by this system made a large concrete wet well necessary to allow enough time between pumping cycles for pumps to cool themselves. Operational valves for the pump station are installed directly in the ground and can be opened and closed using a meter key. Primary level sensing is achieved using a pressure transducer that will be unaffected by the turbulent conditions from inflowing stormwater. Floats are also installed in the wet well to provide redundant level sensing. Electrical controls for the system comprise an Allen-Bradley controller configured for a duplex pumping configuration and installed within a NEMA 4X enclosure suitable for the outdoor setting.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities was contacted to provide the design and supply of a stormwater pump station for the Antioch Gypsum Plant owned by Georgia Pacific. This project required a powerful system that would handle the collected stormwater from the surrounding facilities. Romtec Utilities drafted a suitable pump station design using site-specific data supplied by Mark Thomas & Company, the engineer working on this project. Production of the system began once the design was approved by the engineer and the other reviewing parties. The system was largely prefabricated in the Romtec Utilities yard and then delivered in easy to install segments. The installation of this pump station was completed by Envirocon, the contractor. Romtec Utilities provided a construction advisor during the installation to answer any of the contractors questions provide advice related to the assembly of the pump station. Once completed, an onsite technician travelled to Antioch Gypsum Plant to start-up the system and train operating personnel on the stormwater pump station.
