Peaking factor is a term that describes a fictitious scenario where the inflow to a lift station is calculated as several times higher than the maximum possible sewage flow. In more simple terms, if each house that flowed to a lift station turned on every shower, ran every faucet, and flushed every toilet, that number would be multiplied by a factor, typically by three, to account for substantially more than the maximum possible sewage flow. This number is used as a best practice in the engineering of sewer and wastewater lift stations, and understanding the specific peaking factor needs for your site is a crucial design consideration for your lift station.
Featured Project: Snoqualmie Ridge II Residential Development
Romtec Utilities recently started-up a new wastewater lift station that was designed, manufactured, and supplied to meet the specific standards of the City of Snoqualmie. This project was for a 34 lot addition to the Snoqualmie II residential development to handle sanitary sewer from the homes and pump it to gravity lines. Romtec Utilities helped the developer, PulteGroup, get its lift station manufactured and delivered so that its development could move forward.
The (not-so) Secret of Romtec Utilities? Design Diversity
Romtec Utilities has designed pumping systems to meet an impressive diversity of needs, and each day brings new and exciting systems to our engineers. Not every company has the ability to design pumping systems to meet unique, site-specific requirements while also including reliable and cost-effective components from established manufacturers. At Romtec Utilities, this is the approach our staff takes with every new project. Each system is unique and is given individual attention to make sure our designs meet the functional, budgetary, and scheduling needs of the customer. We never try to pass off a template design. Your system is configured for your project alone. We can do this because we have experience with all types of water pumping, diverse engineering expertise, and no exclusive vendor affiliations.
Romtec Utilities Design and Engineering Savings
Romtec Utilities provides expert design and engineering services on each of our pumping systems. These services are complementary to our customers when they purchase a lift station package from us. By offering design and engineering services as part of our packaged pump system, our customers get substantial cost savings on their project. This process also provides time savings for our customers because Romtec Utilities only designs and manufactures pumping systems, so we get your design and supply right the first time.
The Importance of Accurate Site Plans with Accurate, To-Scale Pumping Equipment Layouts
Romtec Utilities has experienced many pump station projects that do not have accurate site plans prior to installation. We have also experienced jobs with precise site plans. The difference between these two scenarios can be the difference of days and weeks in project timelines and dozens of hours of engineering services. Romtec Utilities strongly recommends that new pumping system projects obtain an accurate site plan early in the engineering phase of the pumping system.
