City of Arcata, CA – Turnkey Lift Station Replacement
Project Description
This “turnkey” replacement lift station was designed, supplied, and installed to meet super-high sewage flow with infiltration and inflow requirements of a municipal wastewater lift station. Submersible solids-handling pumps in a triplex configuration were installed. The below-grade valve assembly includes plug valves, check valves, ball valves, a pumping port, and a pigging port. The UL listed control panel has an ultrasonic transducer for primary liquid level sensing, redundant float controls, and an autodialer alarm. VFDs were also included in the lift station controls.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Due to budget limitations the City of Arcata needed Romtec Utilities to provide the complete design/engineering, supply, construction, and installation of this lift station replacement. The exceptional inflow and infiltration requirements called for a big triplex lift station with sophisticated controls. Romtec Utilities solved the complex installation conditions in historic tidal land, with groundwater present just 3 feet below grade. The wet well alone required a 30’ deep hole with additional grades needed for the valve vault, gravity manhole, and force main manhole. The design, engineering, special equipment, and installation requirements for this project would not have been within the City’s budget without Romtec Utilities’ “site specific” packaged lift station approach, which was much more affordable and more reliable.
