City of Shafter – Existing Sewer Sump Repair
Project Description
A suburb of the City of Shafter required a lift station package to repair and rehabilitate an existing wastewater sump. Duplex submersible centrifugal pumps and discharge pipe mounting brackets were fitted to a concrete slab poured in the bottom of the existing manhole. The Romtec Utilities package included the proper components to operate in this 26-foot-deep sump. An outdoor MultiSmart control panel utilizes conductive probes for primary and backup level controls and an autodialer for communications. This retrofit package saved about 60% the cost of a new lift station.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The City of Shafter contacted Romtec Utilities to explore the possibility of rehabilitating an existing wastewater lift station. Romtec Utilities sent a technician to the lift station to evaluate its components. The Romtec Utilities engineering staff used the information gathered from the visit to propose a course of action. A design and plan for the retrofit were developed to replace several major components of the system, including the pumps and control panel. The City of Shafter then received from Romtec Utilities the complete design document and supply package to self “install” the retrofit. This process allowed the city to avoid the lengthy and costly construction for a new lift station while receiving a fully functional system.
