MGC Pure Chemicals America – Stormwater Pump Station for Chemical Refining Plant
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied a stormwater pump station for an industrial chemical refining plant in Forest Grove, Oregon. The pumping system collects and discharges stormwater into an onsite treatment system to remove contaminants before being discharged. Two Ebara 7.5hp submersible pumps were installed in a duplex configuration. Thermal and leak detection relays inside the pumps will automatically trigger warnings to notify personnel in the event of pump or seal failures. The discharge valves were installed directly in the 18’ wet well to conserve space onsite. Electrical controls for the system were designed and supplied by Romtec Utilities with an alternator relay controller mounted and installed inside a NEMA 4 painted steel enclosure. The system has remote monitoring and operation capabilities through Romtec Utilities SCADA Connect over a cellular connection.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The construction of a hydrogen peroxide refinement plant for the Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (MGC) required a pump station to collect and discharge stormwater to an onsite treatment system. AAI Engineering, the site engineer working for MGC, contacted Romtec Utilities for the design of a pump station that would meet the requirements of this pumping application. Working with AAI and Gray, the architect, the design was completed to their specifications and approved. Romtec Utilities manufactured the system while the installation was sent out to bid. Kerr Contractors won the job and installed the system while an onsite construction advisor was sent to the job site to answer any questions during construction. Once the site was ready and the system was ready to be commissioned, Romtec Utilities sent a field technician to provide start-up, testing, and training services for operating personnel at the chemical plant.
