Romtec Utilities designed, manufactured, and supplied two sewer system replacement lift stations for the City of Norco. These replacement pump systems support reliable wastewater conveyance as the community grows. In Norco, two aging lift stations needed replacement. As a result, the sewer system could better manage changing flow demands in a developing area. The company designed and built two custom packaged systems for the project.

Romtec Utilities engineered each replacement wastewater lift station around the site’s needs. Those needs included flow requirements, control preferences, maintenance access, and installation conditions. In addition, the complete packaged systems helped simplify procurement, improve quality control, and support an efficient installation process.

Norco sits in Riverside County, California, east of Anaheim. The city promotes its “Horsetown USA” identity through its equestrian-focused community, extensive horse trails, and animal-keeping lifestyle.

This sewer replacement system supports local infrastructure as the community continues to serve residents, businesses, and future development.

The City of Norco required two replacement wastewater lift stations. These systems upgraded existing sewer infrastructure and improved pumping reliability. Although the two systems shared a similar overall design, Romtec Utilities tailored key components for each site’s hydraulic conditions.

The first lift station included two 7.5 hp Ebara pumps in a duplex pumping configuration. A Tesco reactive air monitor provided level sensing inside the system.

The second lift station also used Ebara pumps, but this system included 5 hp motors to meet lower flow requirements. Radar instrumentation provided liquid level detection for this location.

Both lift stations included 6-foot-diameter wet wells. Each wet well reached nearly 26 feet deep. As a result, the deeper wet wells provided storage volume between pumping cycles. Meanwhile, wet well wizards helped remove fats, oils, grease, and other buildup from the sump walls.

Romtec Utilities designed both systems with 4-inch discharge piping, 4-inch valve skids, davit cranes, CompactLogix controllers, and Arc Armor electrical enclosures. One lift station pumps up to 150 gallons per minute. The other pumps up to 200 gallons per minute.

Romtec, the sister company of Romtec Utilities, supplied two post shelters for the project. Romtec provides shelters and restroom buildings for park, recreation, and public facility projects throughout the United States.

Romtec Utilities worked with RKA Consulting Services on both lift stations. RKA Consulting Services served as the project engineer coordinating with the City. Together, the teams designed each lift station around site-specific pumping requirements. In addition, RKA Consulting Services provides engineering, building, and safety services for municipalities across the Greater Los Angeles area.

The application required deep wet wells, reliable level sensing, and electrical controls. These controls needed to support operator safety and long-term system performance. Therefore, Romtec Utilities selected Arc Armor enclosures for the electrical control panels. The enclosures help protect operators while maintaining access to critical controls.

After the City of Norco approved the designs, Romtec Utilities released the packaged lift stations into production. Then, the company prepared the systems for delivery. GCI Construction won the public bid for installation and completed the construction work. During installation, a Romtec Utilities construction advisor visited the site. The advisor answered questions and helped confirm that crews installed each system according to the approved design.

GCI Construction, a commercial general contractor based in the Bay Area, installed the wastewater lift station replacement systems.

Romtec Utilities manufactured the two replacement wastewater lift stations before delivery. Because of this prefabricated approach, the project improved quality control and reduced field time, labor, and equipment needs. Many system components arrived ready for installation. As a result, the contractor moved through installation more efficiently.

After installation, a Romtec Utilities site technician commissioned the replacement lift stations for the City of Norco. The technician trained maintenance personnel on system operations, controls, and key equipment.
