Portside Phase III – Industrial Wastewater Lift Station
Project Description
Romtec Utilities often supplies lift stations for developments of various types, including residential, commercial, industrial, and even mixed-use developments. The Portside Phase 3 project was part of a new industrial development by Specht Properties. Located in Vancouver, Washington, this industrial development was in need of a wastewater lift station and Perlo Construction, the awarded general contractor, brought this opportunity to Romtec Utilities.
The Portside Phase 3 lift station is composed of a 5’ inner diameter (ID) wet well that is 12.66’ in depth. In addition to the pre-cast wet well, a pre-cast valve vault was also supplied to house 3” piping and valves. Pre-cast wet wells and vaults allow Romtec Utilities production specialists to do pre-fabrication work and quality control checks at our facility, ensuring that our customer is getting the best product. This process of fabrication also saves the customer time on site and shortens the lead time for construction.
This lift station is a “duplex” system with two 2 horsepower (HP) Ebara submersible pumps controlled by an alternator relay. The controller receives signals from four (4) NOLTA floats that are distributed at different depths to control the start and stop of the pumping cycles.
Romtec Utilities can use various ratings of hatch to access the wet well. The rating used for the hatch is important as it determines the weight that can be handled by the hatch, and is essential for safety around the wet well. The hatch on this system is an H-20 occasional traffic rated hatch, meaning the hatch can withstand the occasional vehicle driving over the top of it. While it is not rated to handle normal traffic, the H-20 occasional traffic hatch is a great option for areas that are generally away from traffic but may require maintenance vehicles to drive over the wet well.
Perlo Construction and Ken Leahy Construction, the installer for this lift station, worked hard to bring this project to a close. The combined efforts of these agencies and Romtec Utilities have made this project a success for Specht Development.
