City of Santa Paula – Large Wastewater Wet Well
Project Description
Romtec Utilities often supplies lift stations for new developments. In the Harvest at Limoneira project, a new residential development in Santa Paula, California, was in need of a wastewater lift station with a large wet well.
This lift station features the largest wet well that Romtec Utilities has ever supplied. This 12’ inner diameter (ID) wet well is a whopping 31.6’ in depth. This massive wet well is made of Armorock Polymer Concrete, which is more resistant than traditional concrete to the corrosive effects of the Hydrogen Sulfide gas (H2S) that forms inside of wet wells. Armorock’s polymer concrete can greatly improve the life of wastewater wet wells, and is even warrantied by Armorock for 50 years.
This wet well houses three (3) 15 horsepower (HP) Vaughan Submersible Chopper Pumps. Chopper Pumps have a sharpened edge on the impeller to slice through any solid matter as it comes through the pump. This ensures that the wastes can pass though the discharge piping without causing any clogging or backups in the pipes.
For level sensing, this system has both primary and backup level sensing devices. The primary level sensing device is a pressure transducer, which measures the amount of water in the wet well by measuring the pressure at the bottom of the well. The backup level sensing devices are four (4) NOLTA MS1 floats. The level sensing devices, when triggered, will send a signal to a Micrologixs 1400 PLC controller to activate the pumps.
The Harvest at Limoneira project was a large project, and is the result of cooperation between Jensen Design & Survey, Lewis Management, Veolia, Morrow Management, Toro Enterprises, and many others. Toro Enterprises was the contractor on this project, and used their expertise to properly install this large system for the City of Santa Paula. Romtec Utilities is grateful for the opportunity to work on this project with such experienced and professional entities.
