Project Description

Romtec designed and supplied a municipal sewer lift station for the Clark County Regional Water District in Vancouver, Washington. Vancouver, Washington sits next to the Columbia River across from Portland, Oregon and the Portland International Airport (PDX).

Two main interstates flow through Vancouver connecting it with Portland and the larger region: Interstate 5 and Interstate 205. The Interstate Bridge and the Glenn Jackson Bridge connect the two states across the Columbia River. As the county seat of Clark County, it had a population of 190,915 during the 2020 census making it the fourth most populous city in the state.

Local attractions include the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, Pearson Air Museum, Vancouver Lake, Kelley Point Park, Sky Zone Trampoline Park, Wintler Community Park, Royal Oaks Country Club, Burnt Bridge Creek Trail, Frenchman’s Bar Regional Park, David Douglas Park, and Arnold Park.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities

The Clark County Regional Water District (CCRWD) contacted Romtec Utilities after becoming interested in the design standards utilized by the City of Camas.

Clark County Regional Water District is one of the largest sewer districts in the state of Washington. They were the first special purpose district to be accredited in 2005 by the American Public Works Association. They provide safe and reliable wastewater services to more than 109,000 people.

The CCRWD asked Romtec Utilities to justify the benefits of creating lift station design standards like those used by Camas. After the district was satisfied, it specified the Romtec Utilities design as the preapproved design for this and future projects.

Romtec Utilities helped the district design, supply, and install this wastewater lift station before a state highway construction project began nearby. RC Northwest, Inc. was awarded the project and worked with Romtec Utilities to meet the district’s expectations for design, schedule, and cost.

RC Northwest is an excavating contractor based out of Brush Prairie, Washington.

This pump system was designed to meet the medium sewage flow requirements of a municipal lift station.

The duplex pump configuration and backup level sensing provide suitable redundancy for reliable and long-term wastewater infrastructure.

Solids-handling pumps designed for wastewater were supplied to eliminate clogging concerns. A sheltered outdoor PLC control panel provides robust and programmable controls. This pump system also includes a permanent on-site generator to guarantee continued system operation.

The municipal sewer pump system handles up to 325 gallons per minute with a total dynamic head of 48’. It has an 8’ diameter wet well, 4” discharge piping, NP3153 Flygt pumps, and 4″-6″ – 612 valve vault.
