Dona Spring Animal Shelter and Animal Services – Sewer Lift Station
Project Description
A newly constructed public animal shelter required this package lift station to meet low sewage flows with additional animal waste. The difficulties associated with pumping animal waste required submersible solids-handling pumps in a duplex configuration. Variable frequency drives were included for electric phase conversion in order to utilize the appropriate pumps with the available power. A UL listed control panel includes float controls for liquid level-sensing and an autodialer with a basic alarm for emergency notifications.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The civil engineering firm TranSystems contacted Romtec Utilities to design a wastewater lift station for the new construction of an animal shelter replacement. Romtec Utilities began the design of the station by defining the nature of the wastewater to be generated at the facility. Animal wastewater is special from the standpoint of design. Certain qualities of animal waste, such as the presence of animal hair, pose legitimate concerns for clogging and buildup. Romtec Utilities helped TranSystems and the City of Berkley understand and resolve these difficulties. Romtec Utilities then worked with Broward Builders, the contractor, to finalize the approved design and deliver the packaged lift station for installation.
