Kitsap County – Wastewater Lift Stations on the Manchester Shoreline
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied three wastewater lift stations in Kitsap County’s Port Orchard, Washington. Each of the lift stations were designed to use Flygt 4hp submersible pumps in a duplex configuration to meet the medium flow and low head pumping requirements of this application. These systems use concrete wet wells with 6’ ID and 23’ deep to store larger volumes of wastewater between pumping cycles and meet the optimal pump starts per hour. Operational valves necessary to the function of the lift stations were installed in underground vaults adjacent to the wet wells. Pressure transducers were chosen for the primary level sensors inside the wet wells with mechanical floats present for redundancy.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities was contacted to design and supply three new wastewater lift stations for the Manchester residential area on the Kitsap Peninsula. Using pump station design criteria provided by BHC Consultants, the engineer, Romtec Utilities drafted pump station designs that would meet the necessary requirements. The system design was reviewed and approved by Kitsap County & BHC Consultants. The shore side location of these lift stations made the conditions around their installation challenging. Luckily, Redside Construction, the general contractor working for Kitsap County, performed significant dewatering services throughout the installation of each of the systems underground wet wells. This project demanded significant expertise from each party involved, from engineering to site-work, to complete successfully. Romtec Utilities sent an installation adviser to oversee the installation of these systems and answer any questions the contractor had.
