Albany, Oregon – Agriculture Center Wastewater Lift Station
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied the agriculture center wastewater lift station for the new Linn-Benton Community College facility in Albany, Oregon. The owner needed a dependable system to move wastewater from the 53-acre education site. Romtec Utilities worked with the college, KPFF Eugene, Gerding Builders, and other project partners to keep the system aligned with the site design and construction schedule. The college purchased the owner-supplied lift station through a cooperative purchasing process, while the construction contractor handled installation.
Agricultural Training at Linn-Benton Community College
Linn-Benton Community College developed the Agriculture Center to expand hands-on training and prepare students for careers across Oregon’s agricultural industry. The new facility includes livestock areas for beef cattle, sheep, swine, and horses. It will also include an Animal Science Complex, classrooms, wet labs, and pasture space for practical instruction. The project received $8 million in state funding, supported by matching local bond funds. Construction began in 2025. The center allows students to finish livestock and agricultural labs on site while building skills for work as farmers, ranchers, and agricultural professionals.
Albany Wastewater Lift Station Design and Equipment
Romtec Utilities engineered the agriculture center wastewater lift station around the site’s expected flows and operating needs. The station uses two submersible pumps to provide dependable service and built-in backup capacity. The design supports a peak inflow of 50 gallons per minute. It delivers 62 gallons per minute at about 20.7 feet of total dynamic head. This performance gives the site enough capacity to move wastewater through the force main under expected operating conditions.
Key Lift Station Components
Romtec Utilities supplied the major structural, mechanical, electrical, and control and communication equipment as one engineered lift station package. Major components included:
- 5-foot high-density polyethylene (HDPE) wet well assembly
- Two Keen KFGX2 submersible wastewater pumps
- Stainless steel guide rail system
- Quick-connect discharge elbows
- Schedule 80 polyvinyl chloride discharge piping
- Dual check valve manifold assembly
- Traffic-rated access hatch and top slab
- Pressure transducer for primary level sensing
- Backup float controls
- PC3000XC control panel in a weather-resistant enclosure
- Ventilation parts and supporting mechanical equipment
The two-pump arrangement improves reliability. One pump can handle normal duty while the second remains ready to assist or take over. This setup lowers the risk of interruption and gives operators added flexibility during maintenance. The high-density polyethylene wet well and corrosion-resistant components also support long service life in a demanding wastewater environment.
Coordinating Design, Procurement, and Installation
The project required close coordination. Linn-Benton Community College purchased the lift station directly, while the construction contractor handled installation. Romtec Utilities worked with the owner, engineer, and contractor during design review and submittals. The team checked equipment requirements, site conditions, and contractor responsibilities before fabrication. This process helped reduce confusion in the field and prepared the system for efficient installation.
The design package included site layout drawings, foundation requirements, mechanical plans, control panel details, pumping calculations, and operating requirements. Romtec Utilities also provided a clear scope of supply that showed what equipment the package included and what work remained with the installer. As a result, each project partner could review the same information and plan its work around the final system design.
Using Cooperative Purchasing to Keep Projects Moving
Early in the project, KPFF Eugene contacted Romtec Utilities to help design the wastewater lift station. The team discussed cooperative purchasing so the college could buy the equipment directly. Romtec Utilities then worked with Linn-Benton Community College to finalize the purchasing approach and coordinate the equipment package.
This approach helped the college secure a complete, pre-engineered system that matched the construction documents. It also gave the owner, engineer, contractor, and supplier clear roles. Romtec Utilities supported equipment selection, engineering, submittals, and coordination through construction.

A Reliable Wastewater Solution for the New Agriculture Center
The completed agriculture center wastewater lift station gives Linn-Benton Community College a reliable system built around the facility’s specific needs. The package combines durable materials, redundant pumping, level controls, and a coordinated control system. Just as important, the project shows how early engineering support and a clear purchasing strategy can simplify a complex owner-supplied equipment package. Romtec Utilities brought the equipment, drawings, calculations, and coordination into one scope so the project team could move from design to construction with confidence.
