City of Medford – City Sports Park Municipal Lift Station
Project Description
The City of Medford needed a new wastewater lift station to handle low flows of sewage at the new US Cellular municipal sports park. To pump the sewage to the municipal treatment plant, this system included 4 hp Flygt pumps in a duplex configuration. Flygt was the preferred pump brand for the City. The in-ground wet well was fabricated with precast concrete. To make this system more economical, the system operation valves were installed onto the discharge manifold in the wet well. This eliminated the need for a separate vault structure. The UL listed control panel was an alternator panel that cycled pump stars and was programmed to start and stop on level. The in-well level sensing uses mechanical floats to pump the active volume and trigger alarms in case of pump failure.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities started working on this project with the site civil engineer, Hardey Group. They needed a lift station design that would meet their needs while also meeting design standards for the City, namely using Flygt pumps. They also wanted assistance developing the specification for their bid package. Romtec Utilities also worked with the City to meet its standard designs and ensure that the specification documentation met its needs. The project construction bid was ultimately won by Batzer Construction, Inc., and Romtec Utilities provided and on-site installation adviser during the system construction. Finally, a Romtec Utilities start-up technician commissioned the new lift station and provided testing and training for the City.
