City of Norco – Sewer System Replacement Lift Stations
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed, supplied, and manufactured two wastewater lift stations for the City of Norco, California. The sewer systems are replacing two existing lift stations to meet the growing flows in the neighborhood. Both lift stations include similar designs, but several key components are deterrent between the systems. The first lift station includes a pair of 7.5hp Ebara pumps installed in a duplex pumping configuration. Level sensing inside this system is achieved using a Tesco reactive air monitor. The other lift station also includes Ebara pumps, but with 5hp motors to meet its lower flow requirements. Radar was used for liquid level detection on this system. Both lift stations have large wet wells that are nearly 26’ deep for storing high volumes of wastewater between pumping cycles. Wet well wizards are installed in each sump that automatically clean FOG (fats, oils, and greases) and other build up from the walls. All electrical controls for both systems were installed inside an Arc Armor enclosure to meet safety standards for the city.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The City of Norco required two wastewater lift stations to replace existing sewer systems. The new lift stations were needed to handle growing flow requirements in an area under development. Romtec Utilities worked with RKA Consulting Services, the site engineer who was working with the city, to design the two lift stations according to the pumping requirements of both locations. This application required two very deep wet wells and instrumentation that would work for each system. Arc Armor enclosures were selected for housing electrical control panels to protect operators from electrocution. Once the design of each system was finalized and approved by the City, Romtec Utilities launched the package lift stations into production and prepared them for delivery. GCI Construction won the public bid for installation of the lift station and completed it while a Romtec Utilities construction advisor was available onsite to answer any questions. The system is currently waiting to be commissioned by a trained Romtec Utilities field technician. The City of Norco will be trained on the controls and operation of both lift stations by the startup technician once commissioned.
