The Gulf Coast Growth Ventures project, also known as “GCGV”, is a unique project in which Romtec Utilities supplied six (6) Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) assemblies for Exxon Mobile. Located in Gregory, Texas, the PRV’s serve temporary lift stations implemented for job site facilities for the construction of a new petroleum refining facility.

PRVs are an auxiliary system that can be added to reduce the pressure from the lift station in to the force main. In the GCGV project, multiple lift stations are feeding into one force main, and as each station starts and stops pumping, the pressure will change. If multiple systems are pumping simultaneously, the pressure inside the force main can skyrocket.

Pressure in a system can cause a variety of negative effects. Valves, couplings, seals, and piping can be damaged by excess pressure. Our PRV’s are designed to help water maintain a consistent pressure and divert excess into a separate channel, which then drains back into the wet well.

The pre-packaged Romtec Utilities PRV systems incorporate the use of pressure reducing valves, air release valves, check valves, and ball valves. Above ground fiberglass structures surround each system to provide protection from the elements, and open on each side for easy maintenance access.

Romtec Utilities supplied these systems to Eggelhof Inc for the end owner, Exxon Mobile. Eggelhof “specializes in protecting critical plant equipment and purification of process medias [Oil & Gas]”, and are a valuable contributor to the encompassing refining facility project (“Markets – Eggelhof Incorporated”, 2021).

While the lift stations at the GCGV job site are temporary for the construction of the new refinery, their ability to function will have a great impact on the progress that can be made on the job over the coming years.
