Long Beach Exchange Retail – Five Identical Stormwater Pump Stations
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied five stormwater pump stations for a new commercial development in Long Beach, California. All five of the pumping systems are nearly identical and are engineered with Ebara 2 hp submersible pumps. They are in a simplex configuration to handle intermittent, low-flows of stormwater. The slight changes in head requirements between the systems were resolved by trimming the pump impellers as needed to impact the pumping rate. Due to depth limitations onsite, each of the five concrete wet wells are 8’6” tall with a 4’ interior diameter. Nolta floats for level-sensing interface with electrical controls to provide reliable pump starts and stops on level inside the wet well. Additionally, all five control panels are located inside NEMA 4 painted steel enclosures for all weather protection.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Long Beach Exchange is a new retail market that includes several large and small storefronts, including retail stores, restaurants, and a grocery outlet. Romtec Utilities was originally contacted by The Mark Company, the contractor, to quote six individual stormwater systems for this private project. Later, it was discovered only five pump stations were required to handle the flows. After providing the preliminary design submittals, The Mark Co. chose to utilize our packaged pump station, which it had previously used on a separate development project. When the site was ready to move forward and the designs were approved by Level, the engineer, these five systems were installed. Romtec Utilities coordinated with The Mark Company and Level to commission these systems and provide start-up, testing, and training for the owners at Long Beach Exchange.
