Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital – Stormwater Pump Station
Project Description
A hospital in Santa Barbara, California needed an engineered pump station to handle medium flows of stormwater. Romtec Utilities used 5hp Flygt submersible pumps in a duplex configuration to meet the flow requirements for this application. In well electrical components such as the pumps and level sensing floats connect to the system control panel through a junction box installed in a below-grade concrete vault. Electrical controls for the pump station include an USP AD-2000, an auto-dialer alarm system to notify personnel of issues with the system as they arise.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital required a new stormwater pump station that would meet the design criteria of the project. Romtec Utilities had provided two pump stations for this hospital prior to this project and was specified by the project engineer, Stantec, to provide the new stormwater system. Using the existing stormwater pump station as a design template, Romtec Utilities designed and supplied the new stormwater pump station. The installation of the pump station was sent out to public bid and awarded to Tierra Contracting. Romtec Utilities sold the pump station to Tierra Contracting directly who completed installation with guidance from Romtec Utilities field technician. After the electrical work was completed and Romtec Utilities control panel connected, pumps were delivered and the pump station was commissioned and tested by the start-up technician. Operating personnel at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital were then trained on the pump station controls and operating procedures.
