U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Chopper Pump Sewer Lift Station
Project Description
This unique package wastewater lift station was designed to meet the high sewage flows of this US Army Corps of Engineers managed reservoir and nearby campgrounds. Vertical chopper pumps were engineered above the sump in a precast concrete structure with the above grade valve assembly. Two inlet lines were engineered with extra piping to direct influent toward the bottom of the sump. The structure also contains the UL listed control panel. Float controls were used for liquid level-sensing, and the control panel included soft starters typical for vertical shaft pumps.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) designed a unique wastewater lift station and asked Romtec Utilities to provide pricing for the supply of the components, including a precast concrete circular control room. Romtec Utilities provided expert insight into the design by explaining the obstacles associated with a precast concrete structure. The design was fundamentally sound, but only Romtec Utilities possessed the experience and expert insight to create a functional lift station design with prefabricated concrete used as a sump and control shelter. Additionally, Romtec Utilities allowed the USACE and its installing contractor to save money by purchasing the lift station through the Romtec Utilities’ GSA contract.
