Washington County – Groundwater Management Pump Stations
Project Description
Seismic upgrades to the Washington County Public Service Building required the installation of five stormwater pump stations. The pumping systems keep groundwater levels down around the large building with four systems surrounding the property and one in the basement of the building. Romtec Utilities used Ebara 1hp pumps in duplex configurations on the exterior systems and 1/3hp pumps for the interior pump station. All five wet wells are perforated and wrapped to allow groundwater to percolate into the structure to manage groundwater levels. Stormwater levels are detected with Nolta mechanical floats. The pump stations are controlled using an alternator control panel configured by Romtec Utilities for this duplex pumping application.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Washington County is in the process of completing several seismic retrofit projects on their essential facilities to withstand powerful earthquakes caused by the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Romtec Utilities worked on this project to provide five stormwater pump stations to support these retrofits by removing groundwater from the area. Pump station designs were developed by Romtec Utilities using project information and data collected by KPFF, the engineer. Construction of the systems was awarded to Westech Construction, the underground contractor, through the public bid process. Once the structural construction was complete, Romtec Utilities delivered the pumps and sent an onsite technician to start-up the pump stations and provide training to the owners & operators at Washington County Facilities and Parks Services.
