Mission Garden – Affordable Housing Development Lift Station
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied a wastewater lift station for a low-income housing development in San Miguel, California. The lift station uses Ebara, 3 hp submersible pumps in a duplex configuration to handle low flows of wastewater. A lining for the interior of the wet well was precast into place to meet the local requirements and to protect the concrete from corrosive H2S gas. The design standards also required fall protection to be used for both the wet well and valve vault structures, and Romtec Utilities includes safety grates on all of our pump stations. Electrical controls and telemetry equipment for this lift station were provided by Tesco Controls and integrated into the San Miguel Community Service District’s existing SCADA system. This provided remote monitoring of pumps, alarms, and flow rates for the lift station.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities provided the design and supply of this wastewater lift station, including all structural and mechanical systems for a new development called Mission Garden. The project site civil engineer, North Coast Engineering, contacted Romtec Utilities to develop a lift station design that would meet all the criteria for this site, the new lift station, and the needs of the housing development. Peoples’ Self-Help Housing is a nonprofit organization that develops affordable housing for the California Central Coast. It purchased the lift station from Romtec Utilities directly after the design was approved. Underground construction, including the installation of the concrete wet well and valve vault, was completed by the awarded contractor, Spurr Excavating. Romtec Utilities commissioned the system and provided start-up services after the construction was complete.
