City of Santa Barbara, California – Dry-Season Stormwater Flows
Project Description
The City of Santa Barbara needed this packaged pump station to manage low stormwater flows from events that occur during the dry season. Duplex submersible pumps capable of passing a 3-inch solid pump the water into an existing sanitary sewer pressure main and on to treatment. This pump station includes an in-ground valve vault with plug and check valves and stainless steel discharge piping to handle oily or contaminated water conditions. Romtec Utilities supplied the complete electrical controls with liquid level sensing, alarm notifications, pump start and stop cycles, above-grade disconnect stand, and intrinsically safe circuits.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities was the lift station of choice by the City of Santa Barbara and its contractor, Tierra Contacting, Inc., because of Romtec Utilities’ expert design services for site-specific pump stations. Romtec Utilities worked with URS Corp, the project engineering firm, to include unique pump station design into a larger stormwater management project. Romtec Utilities designed and engineered this pump station to pump occasional stormwater flows into an existing sanitary sewer pressure main to prevent dry-season contaminated water from entering a nearby creek. URS and the City of Santa Barbara were satisfied with the Romtec Utilities design and approved the pump station design submittals. Romtec Utilities then worked with Tierra Contracting to provide the complete packaged pump station at a price that would keep the project in budget.
