Project Description

Romtec Utilities was pleased to provide a stormwater pump station for the renovation of Allen Hall at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. Eugene, Oregon is a city in the southern Willamette Valley. The Willamette River flows through town providing a lot of space for parks and recreation along the river.

Eugene had a population of 176,654 during the 2020 census making it the second largest city in Oregon.

The University of Oregon calls Eugene its home when it was founded in 1876. This public university is largely known for its sports programs. The U of O Ducks football team plays at Autzen Stadium located near the Willamette River and Alton Baker Park, which is a large outdoor area with trails and a dog park.

The historic Hayward Field is home to the U of O track and field program and hosts major track events for the U.S. including the Olympic qualifiers and the Prefontaine Classic.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities

Allen Hall is home to the School of Journalism and Communication at U of O in Eugene. Allen Hall had wings that were built in 1922 and 1954 and went under renovation. Included in the renovation were new classrooms, offices, a data center, and a commons area.

This package pump station was a great solution for integrating a stormwater plan into a larger construction project.

Lease Crutcher Lewis, LLC and Branch Engineering worked with Romtec Utilities to design the most cost-effective design to meet the University of Oregon’s stormwater pumping requirements.

Lease Crutcher Lewis is a pacific northwest premier general contractor founded in 1886, with offices in Seattle, Portland, and Eugene.

Branch Engineering, the acting civil engineer, utilized sample specifications provided by Romtec Utilities to specify this stormwater package pump station as the most appropriate and lowest cost option.

Romtec Utilities, while working with the contractor, designed and supplied a perfectly value engineered package pump system that would meet the University and civil engineer’s pumping requirements while remaining within the general contractor’s budget.

Branch Engineering is a civil engineer based out of Philomath, providing a variety of wide array of engineering services.

This package pump system was designed to meet low flows of stormwater expected after the expansion of this university building.

The duplex pump configuration with submersible centrifugal pumps provides reliable and lasting pumping capabilities.

A simple UL listed control panel with an intrinsically safe (IS) barrier and basic alarm was designed and supplied as a part of the electrical layout for this package pump system. This system was designed with four floats for liquid level-sensing and automatic starting and stopping of pumps on level.

The stormwater pump station can pump up to 350 gallons per minute with a total dynamic head of 25’. It features a 6’ diameter wet well, 4” discharge piping, and Ebara pumps.

Romtec Utilities was pleased to provide this stormwater pump station for the renovation of Allen Hall at the University of Oregon. It provides pumping coverage when storm events happen to prevent flooding in and around the Allen Hall building.
