Sprouts at Mira Mesa – Low-Flow Stormwater Pump Station
Project Description
A new health-focused grocery store at a shopping mall required a pump station to handle low flows of stormwater. This is one of the smallest pump station sizes we offer, and it meets the flow requirements with a 1 hp Goulds pump in a simplex configuration. Additionally, this system’s design included a 1/3 hp Ebara jockey pump to handle smaller nuisance flows during the dry season. Nolta floats inside the wet well were included to detect liquid levels for pump starts and stops. Electrical components inside the wet well are wired to the control panel through an in-well junction box installed in two NEMA 4X enclosures. Electrical controls for the system are configured for the simplex configuration with a UL listed controller in a NEMA 4 painted steel enclosure for protection against the intrusion of dust, water, and frost.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities was contacted by Kimley Horn, the engineer, to provide a new stormwater pump station for the Sprouts grocery store in the Mira Mesa Mall. It is the second stormwater pumping system that we provided in this shopping center. This was a unique project due to the super low-flow requirements of the system and the need for an additional jockey pump to meet two differing flow rates required for this application. Taylor Underground, the contractor, installed the structural components of the pump station. Romtec Utilities sent field technicians to provide on-site construction advice during installation and to commission the system at start-up. Our onsite technicians also provided training to the system owners at Mira Mesa Mall.
