Vernalis, California – Package Wastewater Lift Stations
For this project we provided two package wastewater lift stations for Caltrans at their Westley Safety Roadside Rest Area’s in central California. These two package pump stations will meet the needs of the restrooms at these rest areas, which see a high flow of traffic and stops by travelers and truckers.
This project came to us from ReCom Development who connected us with Caltrans and Capital Flow who installed the lift stations.
Vernalis, California is in the central valley south of Sacramento and east of San Francisco. Located along Interstate 5, this area encounters travelers moving north and south through the region.
Caltrans needed to upgrade their Westley Safety Roadside Rest Area (SRRA) buildings to expand and update the Northbound and Southbound facilities. The aging facilities and capacity limits needed to be replaced as the buildings were reaching 47 years old.
Westley had a population of 575 at the 2020 census and is part of the Modesto metropolitan area which had a population over 560,000. Westley is within Stanislaus County.
Rest Area Wastewater Lift Stations
Romtec Utilities was contacted by ReCom Development who was bidding the project as a General Contractor. We developed a package for two wastewater lift stations and presented it to ReCom who then contracted with Capital Flow to meet the Disabled Veteran Owned Company requirements on this project. ReCom provides development services out of Bishop, CA.
Westley SRRA is located within Stanislaus County in a rural region of the Central Valley, lying approximately 14 miles south of the city of Tracy and 28 miles south of the City of Stockton. The nearest large communities to the south are Los Banos and Bakersfield at distances of 49 miles and 210 miles, respectively. Modesto is 25 miles east of the Westley rest areas along Interstate 5.
Westley consists of two SRRA units serving the northbound and southbound directions of travel on I-5. These rest areas allow drivers along Interstate 5 to safely exit the freeway on the off ramp, to access restrooms, take a break from the road, walk around the rest area, and refresh before continuing their journey. These rest areas are an important part of the California freeway system, as they ensure safety by allowing drivers who are tired to rest before driving on in a rural area away from major cities.
Caltrans operates the two rest areas, which maintains parking, along with projecting future needs for truck and car vehicle parking and making accommodations to meet those needs.
Westley Northbound has a total of 51 parking spaces, including 33 auto and 18 truck/bus spaces. Westley Southbound has a total of 50 parking spaces, including 34 auto and 16 truck/bus spaces. The two package wastewater lift stations service both the northbound and southbound rest areas in Westley.
Capital Flow Company was the purchasing supplier from Romtec Utilities on this project who installed the wastewater lift stations. Capital Flow Company is a Disabled Veteran Owned Company providing contracting services based out of Sacramento, CA.
Roadside Rest Area Sewer Pumping System
Both wastewater pump stations are similar in size as they have a fiberglass 6′ ID x ~13′ deep wet well, precast 504 Valve Vault, 4″ piping, and duplex Flygt 3hp submersible pumps. The wastewater lift stations can pump up to 200 gallons per minute with a @ 21′ TDH (for both).
Romtec Utilities designs and supplies wastewater lift stations for various projects all over the country. We have the design team to create a pumping system that fits your project needs and the needs of the site location.
Benefits of a Manufactured System
We also provided manufacturing of our systems which is a huge benefit to our customers as it ensures a high level of quality control. It ensures the system is set up correctly and cuts down on the time, costs, and equipment needed for installation. These can save days or times on the installation, which can make a big difference in the event of a quick need for the system or to get it up and operating.
Keys to Romtec Utilities manufacturing:
- We handle the Precast 504 valve vault which is its own vault with all valves, connections, and parts are preinstalled. Therefore, the vault can simply be dropped into place and connected to the wet well and other piping connections. This is a major convenience to developers, customers, governments, and contractors.
- We design the entire system, so our engineers can work with our team of manufacturers to ensure the system is installed per the design.
- Site technician – we send a site tech to the job site upon installation who helps ensure the system is installed correctly.
- Cuts down on costs, time, and equipment needed to install. Ultimately, saving our customers more.
These benefits ensure the system is designed, manufactured, and installed correctly for the project and that it meets the needs of the site.
Our onsite technician also provides commissioning of the system, along with training of maintenance personnel to ensure they know the controls and operations of the system.
Furthermore, we provide a robust warranty on our systems ensuring you are covered in the event of any issues. We are the single source provider handling the entire process, making it easy on you to get back up and pumping if something goes awry.
If you have a need for a package wastewater lift station, contact us today to discuss a preliminary design that will meet your site and project pumping needs. Since we design the system in house, we listen to the owners needs and wants for controls and system alarms, to ensure the system meets the highest standards for every specific project.
