Industrial Crating and Packing – Stormwater Lift Station
Stormwater Lift Station Project Description
In the Industrial Crating and Packing project, Romtec Utilities supplied a stormwater pump station for a new industrial site in Tukwila, Washington. The project got its name from the end owner, Industrial Crating and Packing, a company that is described on their Facebook as a “’one-stop’ export and domestic packing company.”
For this project, Industrial Crating and Packing hired Barghausen Consulting Engineers, a firm that Romtec Utilities has worked with on multiple projects over the years. Understanding our capabilities and value, Barghausen brought this project to us. Romtec Utilities experts worked directly with the general contractor, Ace Communications, for the supply of this lift station.
The lift station for this project was needed to handle stormwater that is draining from the owners’ parking lot into a detention pond. The water from this detention pond drains into a Modular Wetland System (Filter) which then gravity feeds into the Romtec Utilities supplied lift station, allowing the water to be pumped out for treatment.
Stormwater Lift Station Design
The wet well in this Romtec Utilities supplied lift station is a 6’ inner diameter (ID), 13.75’ in depth, precast well. Inside, two 5 horsepower (HP) Ebara Submersible Pumps sit at the bottom of the wet well, and floats positioned at predetermined elevations are used for the primary level sensing to both start and stop the pumping cycle.
In addition to the pumps and level sensors, the Industrial Crating and Packing pump station features in-well valves, with 4” discharge piping and check valves. Placing the valves inside of the wet well eliminates the need for a separate valve vault, saving our customer both time and money on this project.
The check valves prevent the fluid that is being pumped from flowing back into the wet well. Backflow like this can create pressure that the system is not designed to handle, and reduces the ability of the lift station to effectively function.
In addition to the check valves inside the wet well, isolation valves are located in-line with the discharge piping outside the wet well. The isolation valves will allow maintenance personnel to control the flow of fluid in the event of necessary maintenance or repair.
Romtec Utilities would like to extend our appreciation towards Barghausen Consulting Engineers for their continued business, and towards Ace Communications for their work to install this lift station.
