RCC Redwood Campus – Potable Water Booster Station
Booster Station Project Description
Romtec Utilities was asked to design and supply a booster pump station and control building for Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, Oregon to help with the expansion of their campus as they constructed a new Redwood Campus Science Center. RCC wanted to move from their well water systems to municipal supplied water. The booster station helped with this transition as it now supplies water to the entire campus and the new science building which is 17,200 square-feet.
The control building is modular (single building aesthetic but they are separate structures) as the generator is under a roof extension to the side. This helped with the construction, order of operations and costs along with being a critical part of the booster station. The way it’s constructed also allows for the generator to be fixed without having to remove the roof.
The Science Center features two 48-student classrooms, three biology labs and one chemistry/physics lab along with a student common space.
The booster system is also supplying fire flow for the campus hydrants and sprinklers. As demand for water increases on the campus, the (3) smaller domestic pumps will sequentially turn on until they are unable to keep up with demand. At this point the NFPA rated fire pumps from Anvil Fire will turn on. Again, the (3) fire pumps will also turn on sequentially to keep up with demand. All RCC buildings have a powdered blue roof and aesthetic that the control building was built to match. The building also includes both heating and cooling.
Marquess & Associates was the civil engineer/MEP who Romtec Utilities has worked with in the past that brought us the booster station project for RCC. Romtec worked with Marquess & Associates to provide them with the best value from an engineering, construction, and overall cost of maintenance standpoint. Adroit Construction was the general contractor for the campus science center project who constructed the control building and worked with their subcontractor CPI to install the booster station equipment on-site. Adroit has worked with RCC for many years and performs great work in the Southern Oregon area.
