Union Pacific Railroad – Replacement Sewer Collection System
Project Description
The Union Pacific Depot in Cheyenne, Wyoming needed two new sewer lift stations to replace its existing sewer collection system. Each lift station included three precast concrete vault structures, a wet well, valve vault, and metering vault. Both systems use 2 hp Ebara Vortex® sewage pumps in duplex configurations that are explosions proof rated for Class I, Division I locations. The valve assemblies comprise Val-Matic Cam-Centric® plug valves and Swing-Flex® check valves with pressure gauges. Endress and Hauser PROline® electromagnetic flow meters measure the sewage flows for both lift stations. These in-ground valve and meter assemblies were fitted with heat tracing to provide reliable frost protection with Raychem and Digitrace components.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
When CH2MHILL came to Romtec Utilities with five total lift station projects, they wanted to develop their designs for the Union Pacific Railroad as site-specific packages. Each lift station needed to be incorporated into a larger project of replacing the entire sewer and stormwater collection system at this train depot. Romtec Utilities worked with the CH2MHILL plans for the site work, utilities, power, and the complete design criteria relative to each lift station. CH2MHILL wanted to have all the plans figured out in advance and also wanted to have each lift station operate the same for Union Pacific. Romtec Utilities met these goals and sold four new and one retrofit lift station packages to the installing contractor, Wyoming Efficiency Contractors, Inc. Romtec Utilities was the lift station of choice because five lift station packages were developed in conjunction with the goals and plans of CH2MHILL and its customer Union Pacific Railroad.
