Elm Street Elementary School – Low-Flow Macerating Lift Station
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed, supplied, and manufactured two wastewater lift stations for the renovation of an elementary school in Oxnard, California. Both of the new lift stations handle low flows of wastewater with Tsurumi 1 hp cutter pumps installed a duplex pumping configuration. Higher concentrations of solids in the wastewater was expected, and it required the use of cutter pumps to macerate solids into passable sizes. Discharge valves for both systems were installed in dedicated vault assemblies and included drain-back valves emptying into the wet well. Electrical controls for the system were designed using an alternator relay configured for the duplex pumping application. Mechanical floats detect and communicate liquid levels inside the lift station wet well to the control panel. If any issues arise in the systems, personnel are notified with a cellular autodialer.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities provided two wastewater lift stations for the renovation of Elm Street Elementary School in Oxnard, California. The two systems will be privately owned and maintained by the Oxnard School District. Wastewater that flows from the schools presents a unique design challenge for the collection systems due to increased concentrations of solids in the water. Romtec Utilities selected cutter pumps that would meet the flow demands while macerating any solids that do enter the systems. Flow requirements and other site-specific data were supplied by Rick Engineering, the firm working for the school district. When the final design was reviewed and approved, Romtec Utilities manufactured and prefabricated the systems before shipping it to the site. The systems were installed by Vega Engineering with a Romtec Utilities installation advisor present onsite to answer any questions about the lift stations. These systems were commissioned and tested when Romtec Utilities sent a field technician to Elm Street Elementary for start-up, testing, and training of both wastewater lift stations.
