Featured Packaged Pumping System by Romtec Utilities

What is a Site-Specific Packaged Pump Station?

Two weeks ago, we posted a blog saying that Romtec Utilities designs and manufactures all types of site-specific packaged pump stations, but what does this term really mean? For people who have never worked on a pump station project, this term can appear contradictory and confusing. The reason for this is because Romtec Utilities provides a different offering for pumping systems than most people are familiar with. Romtec Utilities can handle any aspect of a pump station design and provide the structural, mechanical, electrical, and communication components needed in a single package with complete design and construction documentation.

Rendering of Industrial Stormwater to Treatment

Stormwater and Pump Station Design

In last week’s blog, the topic of water was discussed to show how different sources produce different water. Romtec Utilities understands that the source of water can have far reaching implications on a pump or lift station design. Wastewater was the main topic of the previous blog, but now we will look at stormwater. Like wastewater, stormwater can be evaluated largely by the source of its flow, but unlike wastewater, stormwater can also be evaluated by where it is getting discharged from the pump station. First, let’s look at stormwater as it relates to its source.

Deflector Panel in a Romtec Utilities System

The Benefits of Drop Bowls and Deflector Panels

Romtec Utilities frequently includes drop bowls or deflector panels into wastewater lift station designs. These simple devices improve the function of the wet well and protect key lift station components from wear. Some customers, however, are not familiar with these devices. Drop bowls and deflector panels serve several important functions such as preventing cascading water, reducing turbulence, and redirecting solids.

Stormwater Pump Station for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District

The New Home of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District

Romtec Utilities recently completed a large project for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) at the new East Campus Operations Center that is currently under construction. The Romtec Utilities supply included a wastewater lift station and a large stormwater pumping station. These two packaged pump stations are a part of construction that began on this facility in September of 2011. Each package pump station offers tremendous benefits for the East Campus facility, which is a champion of green building design and energy efficiency.

Installation of an Industrial, Stormwater System

Part Eight: Chalmette Refining LLC in Chalmette, Louisiana

In the final part of this blog series, we will look at the biggest industrial stormwater system in this series: the Chalmette refinery in Louisiana. Chalmette Refining, LLC is a joint ownership venture between ExxonMobil and Petròleos de Venezuela. Romtec Utilities supplied a very unique stormwater pump station capable of servicing the entire refining facility.
