Industrial Stormwater Project Install

Part Seven: Tesoro Terminal in Port Angeles, Washington

Part seven of this industrial stormwater blog series looks at an interesting plot of land for the Tesoro Corporation. The Tesoro facility required a stormwater plan because of its unique location on a narrow peninsula in the Salish Sea. Tesoro worked with Tulsa Engineering Alliance to engineer an oil/water separator with an accompanying package stormwater pump station from Romtec Utilities.

Part Three: British Petroleum Cherry Point Refinery in Birch Bay, Washington

British Petroleum’s Cherry Point Refinery is the subject of part three of the industrial stormwater blog series. This refinery is located near Birch Bay, Washington and is less than a mile from the Salish Sea shoreline. It is the biggest oil refinery in the State of Washington, producing as many as a quarter of a million barrels per day. To address runoff concerns, Cherry Point purchased a Romtec Utilities stormwater pump station.

A growing resort community with golf courses needed this Romtec Utilities package lift station to meet super high sewage flows with high head conditions. The resort has ample property for expansion and needed a wastewater lift station that would also expand. Two submersible solids handling pumps were included in the original supply, but the mounting hardware for a third pump in a triplex configuration was included to allow easy expansion as more condos are constructed. An outdoor control panel is protected by a shelter and utilizes a pressure transducer and backup floats for liquid level-sensing.

The Groton Generating Station needed this package lift station to pump clean water as a part of its power generating processes from natural gas. The submersible centrifugal pumps in a duplex configuration meet the pumping requirements for this facility and discharge the water to parallel force mains.

This package pump station was configured to meet the medium flow requirements for this clean water power generation process and reuse system. The system has a large precast-concrete rectangular sump with a barrier wall –or weir wall- to reduce turbulence for the pumps.
