City of Ashland, OR – Municipal Sewer Lift Station Retrofit
Project Description
Romtec Utilities retrofitted an existing wastewater lift station to meet rising flow rates in a neighborhood area of Ashland, Oregon. The retrofit plan called for the replacement of the concrete wet well structure and the pumps. Romtec Utilities used 4 hp Flygt submersible pumps installed in a duplex configuration to meet the low flow requirements with medium head pressure conditions. Using a drop bowl at the inlet line for the wet well prevents cascading water from damaging pump cable connections in this small well, and Flygt mix-flush valves also provide in-well mixing to prevent the build-up of solids. Above the wet well, a disconnect panel connects the pumps and level sensing equipment to the control panel in safe and reliable access point. The City of Ashland maintained the existing SCADA and electrical controls from the previous system.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec quoted the design and supply of this wastewater lift station back in 2008, but due to economic conditions of that era, it did not end up moving forward until 2016. Rather than replace the system, the City wanted to pursue a retrofit project, and its personnel wanted to use Romtec Utilities after consulting with our engineers during a site visit. Marquees & Associates, Inc., the engineer, then specified Romtec Utilities as being able to meet the City plans. The new lift station was designed, engineered, and supplied according to existing design standards. Then, the project was put out to public bid where Ledford Construction, the contractor, won the construction and completed installation of the wastewater system retrofit. Romtec Utilities provided new structural and mechanical assemblies integrated with electrical controls that were retained from the previous system.
