Hanoverton, Ohio Double-Wall Fiberglass Sumps
For this double wall fiberglass sump we provided a stormwater pump station for the Kensington Process Plant which processes liquified natural gas. The double wall fiberglass sump pump station was necessary in order to handle potentially hazardous stormwater.
The pump station has a Xerxes double wall fiberglass sump that has interstitial leak detection, along with corrosion resistant sensors and components, to contain any potential LNG within the stormwater. We worked with the owner, Utica East Ohio Midstream along with the engineer URS Corporation to design, manufacture, and supply these double wall fiberglass sump stormwater pump stations.
Hanoverton, Ohio is a village within Columbiana County on the eastern side of the state. The village had a population of 354 as of the 2020 census.
Hanoverton is located about 78 miles southeast of Cleveland, Ohio and about 28 miles from the Pennsylvania state border line.
U.S. Route 30 and State Route 9 go through Hanoverton. Sandy Creek flows through the village.
Double Wall Fiberglass Stormwater Pump Station
The Kensington Process Plant is in Hanoverton, Ohio which processes liquified natural gas (LNG). At this plant they gather and process wet and dry gas which are connected to pipelines that transport the gas to the Northeast region. The Utica Shales nearby are utilized to share with markets in the Northeast and Southeast portions of the U.S.
The Utica Shale is a major source of gas called unconventional tight gas, that is growing quickly in the eastern Ohio region.
Utica East Ohio Midstream needed two new pump stations to handle low flows of stormwater runoff at its new Kensington Plant in Hanoverton, Ohio. The new plant was needed to process more cubic feet of natural gas per day to address the needs of frackers. There are various other plans in the region just to the southeast of the Kensington Plant that are connected by various pipelines.
To responsibly contain potentially hazardous stormwater from the topsoil, these pump stations were designed with double-wall fiberglass wet wells with interstitial leak detection. The Xerxes Double wall fiberglass sump was used to help contain the stormwater and prevent any leaking of the stormwater that has potential LNG.
Double Wall Fiberglass System
Both pumping systems included corrosion resistant components and sensors due to the potential presence of LNGs in the stormwater runoff. Pumps were engineered with 7.5 hp Ebara pumps in a duplex configuration, and different impellers were specified for each of the two stormwater pump stations to meet slightly differing head requirements.
The first stormwater pump station pumps up to 75 gallons per minute with a 67’ total dynamic head with a 6’ diameter wet well, 3” discharge piping, Nolta MS1 level controller floats, Valmatic swing flex check valves, and Ebara pumps. A NEMA 4 enclosure houses the control panel that was designed by Romtec Utilities to operate the double wall fiberglass sump pump station.
URS Corporation, the project engineer, contacted Romtec Utilities for the design of three pump stations, including these two pump stations with nearly identical designs.
URS provided Romtec Utilities with the design criteria and requirements for double-wall fiberglass wet wells, corrosion resistant components, and value engineering services.
Romtec Utilities worked to design these pump stations to meet the URS requirements while satisfying the budget of Utica East Ohio Midstream, the end owner and customer.
When the designs were completed, Romtec Utilities manufactured the pump station packages and delivered them to the plant construction site in Ohio where Fagen, Inc. installed all three pump stations.
LNG Plant Stormwater Pump Station
We provided an onsite technician to help with the installation of the system per the design. On top of that we provide a robust warranty, commissioning of the system, and training for maintenance personnel. We handle the entire design, manufacture, and supply of the double wall fiberglass system pump station. We take care of the entire process to ensure an easy and smooth process for the owner or developer of the project as we handle all of the steps along the way.
Fagen, Inc. is a leading EPC contractor, with its headquarters in Granite Falls, MN and is known for its exceptional general contractor services. They work in the oil and gas power plant industry.
URS Corporation was formerly United Research Services and provided engineering, design, and construction services and was a US federal government contractor, but they were acquired by AECOM since this project.
At Romtec Utilities we are proud to provide double wall fiberglass sump pump stations for LNG plants, power plants, industrial plants, or industrial complexes. We can design the pump station for contaminants in stormwater, wastewater, or industrial water.
We work with developers, owners, general contractors, and engineers all over the country to provide their pumping needs through our pump stations. We have specialized in this process for decades creating a process that is smooth and easy as we handle each stop in the design, manufacture, and supply of the pump system.
