Low-Cost Stormwater Pump Station for Plantation Pipe Line Company
Project Description
Rockmart, Georgia is a town within Polk County about 45 miles northwest of Atlanta. The town got its name after the large number of slate deposits in the area.
The population was 4,732 in the 2020 census and was formed as a railroad depot when the Southern Railway built a local train stop.
U.S. Route 278 runs through Rockmart along with State Route 101 and 113.
This area is home to several attractions including the Silver Comet Trailhead, Nathan Dean Park, Rockmart Memorial Gardens, Silver Comet Trail Coots Lake, Prospect Valley Golf Course, and the Beautiful Rock Campground, RV and Music Park.
This town is about 25 miles from the border with Alabama to the west while Marietta, Georgia is about 35 miles to the east.
The construction of a new industrial facility by Plantation Pipe Line Company in Rockmart, Georgia required a new stormwater lift station and stormwater plan. The Plantation Pipe Line company provides petroleum to various states in the southeast, including Georgia.
Romtec Utilities was contacted by MWH Americas Inc. (Civil Engineer) to provide budgetary pricing for a package lift station. We worked with MWH Americas and MWH Global (Project Manager) to review their stormwater plan and propose how this approach would benefit their goals.
MWH Global is a leading global project delivery company with a focus on the world’s most precious resource: Water.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
MWH Global quickly realized that this approach would achieve its pumping goals for less money. Romtec Utilities also helped MWH Global reduce the lead time of its approved design without adding cost.
The Romtec Utilities packaged stormwater lift station helped MWH Global and Plantation Pipe Line implement their stormwater plan quickly and for less money. It was configured to meet the medium runoff flow of this industrial property.
One submersible centrifugal pump makes this a simplex station with an in-well check valve. The single pump handles high head conditions caused by 9,000 feet of 4” force main.
Additional system valves are located in a below grade valve vault. An outdoor control panel includes floats for liquid level-sensing and a basic alarm for communication. A Thern crane was included with this pump system to raise and lower the pump.
The low-cost stormwater lift station features 6′ DIAMETER WET WELL, 4″ DISCHARGE PIPING, 80DLCMFU611 EBARA PUMPS, and a 4″ – 444 VALVE VAULT. The system can pump up to 175 gallons per minute with a total dynamic head of 90′.
The value that Romtec Utilities added to this project of an industrial facility by Plantation Pipe Line company in Rockmart, Georgia was reviewing the stormwater plan at the plant while providing a cost-effective stormwater pump system.
By knowing what the pumping environment and parameters were surrounding this project, our Romtec Utilities engineers were able to help them reach their pumping goals and for less money.
We were also able to streamline the lead time for this pumping system, as we turned around the project quickly so they could implement their stormwater plan right away all while saving money.
It was a win-win for everyone.
