Pomona College – Science Laboratory Lift Station
Project Description
Pomona College in Claremont, California needed this new stormwater pump station to handle a wide flow range of runoff. The collection system was engineered with two inflow pipes, one 48” perforated pipe and a second smaller storm drain. Small seasonal events that constitute “nuisance flow” get pumped with a 1/2 hp Zoeller jockey pump back into the large perforated pipe to drain into the ground. Higher flows get pumped through Ebara pumps in 2 hp and 3 hp sizes to meet the required flow rates. Each pump utilitizes its own force main sized for it specific pump curve. Separate float controls manage the pump operation during various inflow conditions. These float controls comprise the control panel device installed in a NEMA 4 enclosure installed inside the basement of the Millikan Science Laboratory.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities began working with Delta Pipeline to provide one stormwater and one wastewater pump station for an expansion of Pomona College. Working Delta Pipeline, Romtec Utilities was able to design this unique stormwater pump station to meet the specific needs of the overall water infrastructure plan. Romtec Utilities then worked to manufacture and deliver the complete pump station for installation. Romtec Utilities provided a start-up technician to commission the pump station and also provide training the operation staff of Pomona College, the owner of the system. Romtec Utilities was able to work from engineering to delivery of the system to provide a unique system with a cost-effective design.
