Indian Health Service – Stormwater Lift Station
Stormwater Lift Station Project Description
On the IHS Davis project, Romtec Utilities worked with Cecil & Cecil Enterprises for the design and supply of a stormwater lift station for the Indian Health Service (IHS) in Davis, California.
The IHS is the Federal Health Program for American Indians and Alaska Natives, and worked with Cecil & Cecil in a larger project to construct a new in-patient clinic for substance abuse. This new treatment center has been given the name Sacred Oaks Healing Center, and will “provide culturally appropriate substance use disorder services to American Indian and Alaska Native youth ages 12 to 17.” Sacred Oaks Healing Center is the second IHS youth regional treatment center in California, and will provide services such as chemical dependency treatment, mental health treatment, therapy, and even education opportunities. The Sacred Oaks Healing Center is dedicated to the American Indian and Alaskan Native youths and families, and strives to make a positive impact in their lives. (Indian Health Service, 2018)
Cecil & Cecil came to Romtec Utilities for the design and supply of a stormwater lift station after construction had begun on the center and they found that the site collected approximately 2 feet of water that needed to be pumped to a detention pond. For this, Romtec Utilities supplied a lift station composed of a precast, 5’ inner diameter wet well that extends 16.66’ in depth, topped with an H20 top hatch rated for occasional traffic.
Stormwater Lift Station Design
Inside this duplex system, two 3 horsepower Ebara submersible pumps are triggered by an Alternator Relay controller that starts and stops pumping cycles. With an Alternator Relay, the pumps will alternate pumping cycles to ensure an even workload between the two. The controller receives level readings from four NOLTA MS1 floats positioned at predetermined depths in the well. These floats are a simple, reliable, and cost-effective level sensing solution, especially for stormwater lift stations like this.
The Romtec Utilities stormwater lift station was successfully installed on IHS’ Sacred Oaks Healing Center Campus, which will be an impactful piece of the community for American Indian youth and families. Cecil & Cecil and the IHS have invested significant amounts of time and money into this project and have greatly invested in the future of Native Youth.
