Wastewater Lift Station Replacement in Honolulu, Hawaii- AMR WWPS #2 Replacement
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and provided a wastewater lift station replacement for the Aliamanu Military Reserve in Honolulu, Hawaii. Honolulu, Hawaii is a city on the island of Oahu on its southern shore. It is the capital of Hawaii and known as a gateway to the islands.
The population of this capital was 350,964 during the 2020 census while the metropolitan area had over 1,000,000 residents.
Pearl Harbor is about 8 miles to the west of the city. Fort Shafter is in this area, as well as the headquarters for the US Army Pacific. Fort Shafter is the oldest military base on Oahu, as the post opened in 1907.
Other attractions in this city include Hawaiʻi Kai Golf Course, Kaloko Beach, Sandy Beach, Koko Head District Park, Honolulu Watershed Forest Reserve, Diamond Head State Monument, Waikiki Aquarium, and Honolulu Zoo.
The Aliamanu Military Reserve, between Fort Shafter to the east and Joint Base Pearl Harbor to the west is another Oahu military base. The Aliamanu Military Reserve has a variety of neighborhoods for housing along with amenities like a shopping center, splash park, and skate park, which it shares with Fort Shafter.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Aqua Engineers, Inc. was contracted by the US Army in Hawaii to provide water and wastewater systems for Aliamanu Military Reserve. For this wastewater lift station replacement, Romtec Utilities was contacted to help Aqua Engineers with help finalizing its designs and locating it in a site plan.
The US Army and Aqua Engineers specified a preference for using the City and County of Honolulu design standards for the replacement.
Romtec Utilities met the requested design standards and provided a site plan layout that was practical for the design and location. In the end, Aqua Engineers chose to purchase the complete Romtec Utilities package pump systems, and we provided the necessary plans and pricing to ship the package to Hawaii.
Serving the US Army Base, Fort Shafter, this military neighborhood needed a wastewater lift station replacement package to be installed adjacent to the existing infrastructure.
The outdoor control panel utilizes conductive probes for primary and backup level controls and an auto dialer for communications. A new generator was installed at grade above an existing generator pit. The owner supplied shelters for the panel and onsite generator.
The Army and Romtec Utilities configured the submersible centrifugal pump components to handle medium flows of municipal wastewater. It pumps 74 gallons per minute with a total dynamic head of 85’. The system has a 6’ diameter wet well, 3” discharge piping, Flygt pumps, and a 3” – 577 valve vault. It connects to the existing 6” gravity line.
We were proud to meet the design standards of the City and County of Honolulu for the wastewater lift station replacement, along with the site plan layout considering the old system that was left in place.
At Romtec Utilities we provide the design, manufacturing, and supply of complete package wastewater pump stations for developments all over the United States.
