United States Postal Service – Wastewater & Stormwater Collection Lift Station
Project Description
A new distribution center for the United States Postal Service in Portland, Oregon required a wastewater lift station. The lift station handles both wastewater and stormwater flows because the stormwater that is collected onsite is essentially wastewater due to fuel and other contaminants from a truck loading area. With limitations at the treatment facility, this system was required to pump at no more than 100 GPM. To prevent the system from becoming overrun at peak flows, a 6,000-gallon overflow tank supplied by Contech was also installed. Inside the wet well, Romtec Utilities included 3 hp Ebara pumps in a duplex configuration. The system is controlled with a logic relay controller inside a NEMA 4 enclosure. Additionally, liquid level sensing is achieved with an AST pressure transducer with NOLTA floats for backup and redundancy.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
KPFF Portland, the project site engineer, first contacted Romtec Utilities for the design and supply of a complete wastewater lift station. Because the system was limited to a 100 GPM discharge rate, Romtec Utilities included a large Contech detention tank in the design to allow the temporary storage of excess water. Once the design was approved, the complete system was manufactured and delivered for construction. Tapani Underground, Inc. was responsible for the underground work and installed the system working with a Romtec Utilities onsite installation advisor. Once installation was complete, Romtec Utilities commissioned the system and provided onsite training for the USPS operations personnel.
