City of Vancouver – Wastewater Lift Station for Mixed Use Development
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied a wastewater lift station for a new mixed-use development in Vancouver, Washington. This lift station handles high flows of wastewater with a pair of 34 hp Flygt submersible pumps. The size and power of the lift station required a motor control center, or MCC, to operate the pumps and the other electrical systems onsite. Wastewater is pre-treated in this collection system with a chemical feed odor control system provided by Romtec. This helps prevent sewage from turning septic and corroding the downstream systems. The discharge valve manifold includes multiple pressure gauges and a flow meter to continuously monitor the system. These devices communicate readings to a Siemens 7 controller. The pumps and in-well electrical components connect to the system controls through Romtec Utilities in-ground junction box.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities was contacted to provide a package wastewater lift station for Columbia Palisades, a mixed-use development in Vancouver, Washington. This large development project by Airpark Development will transform 84-acres of an old rock quarry into an urban neighborhood with residential units, commercial spaces, and offices. Otak Engineering was the site engineer working with Airpark and had previous experience with Romtec Utilities systems. Site-specific data and flow rates used to design this lift station were provided by Otak. Once the design was completed, the City of Vancouver, who will be responsible for the system once the development is complete, reviewed and approved the lift station. Romtec Utilities prefabricated and prepared much of the lift station prior to shipping it to the job site. The system was installed by Tapani, Inc., while a Romtec Utilities installation adviser was available onsite to answer questions about the system. Once the installation was complete, Romtec Utilities scheduled system start-up. A field technician was sent to the site to start-up the lift station and provide testing and training services for operating personnel from the City of Vancouver.
