Wastewater Lift Station for Cedar Point Sports Center
Project Description
Romtec Utilities provided the design and supply of a wastewater lift station for the Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio. Sandusky is a city in northern Ohio that sits on the scenic shores of Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes.
With a population of 25,095, it is also the county seat of Erie County.
The Merry-Go-Round Museum and Maritime Museum of Sandusky are local museums that bring in visitors, but it is really known for its amusement parks which are called Cedar Point, and include Cedar Point Shores, a large water park.
The City of Sandusky is an hour west of Cleveland, Ohio, while Toledo is about an hour west, near the Michigan border.
Sports Fields, Inc. first contacted Romtec Utilities for the design and supply of a wastewater lift station for the Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio. The Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center is an extensive sports complex with a variety of fields for baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse making it a great location for large tournaments. Sports Fields, Inc. is an award-winning sports general contractor.
The nearby Cedar Point Sports Center is a large indoor sports center with basketball courts and other athletic venues.
Romtec Utilities worked alongside Sports Fields and Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon, Inc., the projects engineers, on the design of the wastewater pumping system. Barge is known now as Barge Design Solutions and provides engineering and architecture services.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Choosing to pump into an existing pressure sewer line was a great choice that saved money on the installation of this pumping system.
It can be difficult to get a reliable pump system with these capabilities. Once the final design was complete and approved by the reviewing parties, Sports Fields, Inc. purchased the lift station.
Miller Brothers Construction installed the system, and a Romtec Utilities technician provided on-site construction advice and commissioned it while providing training for the owners and operators.
Romtec Utilities provided a complete wastewater lift station for this sports park in Ohio that will be owned and operated by Erie County.
This lift station collects wastewater from the on-site facilities and then pumps into an existing force main.
In order to pump into the pressurized force main, an Allen-Bradley PLC panel with VFDs and a pressure transducer were engineered to maintain pressure while pumping. The pressure transducer communicates with the VFD which increases or decreases the electrical current to the pumps. This allows the pumps to meet changing pressure conditions in the force main.
7.5 hp EBARA pumps were included in a duplex configuration to meet the necessary flow requirements, and a sump pump inside the valve vault empties accumulated water to prevent damage to the components. To regulate the pump cycle, a pressure transducer is used to sense well levels, and Nolta floats for backup level sensing.
This wastewater lift station pumping into a pressure sewer features a 5′ diameter wet well, 3″ discharge piping, duplex EBARA pumps, and a 3″ 5ft X 7ft valve vault.
