City of El Centro – Pump Station #2 Relocation
Project Description
The City of El Centro in California needed to replace an existing lift station that had been in service for over 40 years. The new system needed to handle high flows of wastewater from the county jail and from several residential developments in the area. To meet the flow requirements and pumping conditions, Romtec Utilities used 15 hp Vaughan chopper pumps in a duplex configuration capable of handling any solids that enter the system. The liquid level sensors inside the wet well utilize an ultrasonic transducer that communicates with the system’s Hydroranger controller. One of the requirements for this system was the need for a precast polymer concrete wet well, which offer resistance against corrosion with a 50 year warranty.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
This was Romtec Utilities’ first project that called for a polymer concrete wet well. We traveled to Nevada to work alongside Armorock, the wet well supplier for the project, completing prefabrication work prior to the delivery of the system for a streamlined installation. Collaborating with Armorock and Rockwell Engineering, the pump supplier, Romtec Utilities completed the design of this robust lift station. Romtec Utilities included all documentation from Armorock and Rockwell Engineering into our specifications, so the City of El Centro only needed to review a single submittal package. Once the design was approved, A&E construction, the general contractor, purchased the lift station directly from Romtec Utilities and installed it.
