Courthouse Lift Station Project in Mineola, New York
Courthouse Wastewater Lift Station Project
The renovation of the Nassau County Family & Matrimonial Courthouse required a new courthouse lift station to better serve the public in Mineola, New York.
The Nassau County Family & Matrimonial Courthouse underwent construction and renovation for a new courthouse and matrimonial center. The old courthouse was overcrowded, out of date, and not suitable to meet the needs of the operation. The previous courthouse was also closer to the State Supreme Court and County Courts. The renovation will help the court system with commuting and parking, as congestion was an issue at the previous location.
Included in the renovation will be 23 family courtrooms and 13 matrimonial courtrooms with upgraded communications, access controls, dedicated elevators, video surveillance security system, new stairs, an atrium, and a ceremonial courtroom.
Romtec Utilities was brought in to design a wastewater pump station to manage the wastewater for the site serving the new building.
Court Building Lift Station Project Players
The civil engineer on the project, Long Island Engineering and Architecture, contacted Romtec Utilities to help them and specified for the courthouse lift station.
Adjo Contracting was the installing contractor of the wastewater pump system on behalf of Nassau County. Adjo serves commercial and residential land developers, general contracting companies, and government municipalities in New York’s five boroughs and Long Island. They provide site development and roadwork, sewer and water pipeline construction, drainage construction, dewatering, paving, concrete, demolition and excavation.
Nassau County and Long Island Engineering trusted Romtec Utilities with the design of a pumping system that would meet the needs of the new courthouse and matrimonial center.

Justice Hall Lift Station Design
The courthouse lift station was relatively complex, but the timing was a priority for this project, and they wanted to get the project moving forward quickly.
This project was a typical wastewater pump station featuring a wet well and valve vault. They required chopper pumps, and we proposed Vaughan Chopper pumps. We also included a spare pump.
The wastewater pump station features Vaughan Chopper 5 horsepower pumps in a duplex configuration, a 6’ wet well, valve vault, control panel, 6” discharge piping, an H-20 hatch, a pressure transducer for primary level sensing, floats, stainless steel guide rails, and an air release valve.
