This apartment complex wastewater lift station project was for a new development in McMinnville, Oregon consisting of a 138-unit complex. The Norton Landing Apartments feature seven buildings and open spaces for residents. K&E Excavating, who we have worked with on several projects before, contacted Romtec Utilities to design the lift station on behalf of KWDS, LLC, the apartment complex developer. This complex is near the Spruce Goose and Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum which is a popular attraction in the city located in the Willamette Valley.

We worked with KWDS to determine if they wanted to move forward with a valve vault and generator for the wastewater lift station, and they agreed to proceed. This was a fast-moving project that was already ongoing, and we were able to deliver the lift station portion. A portable generator receptacle was included due to power being unavailable to the building when the lift station needs to be operational.

McMinnville, Oregon is the county seat of Yamhill County along with being the most populous city in the county. The population was 34,319 as of the 2020 census.

The city sits at the base of the Oregon Coast Range on the western edge of the Willamette Valley.

Salem, the capital of Oregon, is 25 miles to the southeast along State Highway 99W.

The city is where the confluence of the North and South forks of the Yamhill River meet.

McMinnville is home to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, which is home to the Spruce Goose airplane, the largest wooden airplane ever built during World War II. The plane was designed and built by Howard Hughes and flew only one time in 1947.

The museum and Spruce Goose are major tourist attractions for the area.

K&E Excavating reached out to Romtec Utilities for assistance with an apartment sewer lift station for a 138-unit apartment complex in McMinnville, OR. K&E is already on the project and was looking for a design-build lift station. K&E has collaborated with Romtec Utilities on many projects before and knew that we would be able to provide what they needed.

The Norton Landing Apartments has seven buildings and various open spaces for which we provided the apartment complex sewer pump system. The apartment complex wastewater lift station features Keen grinder submersible pumps in a duplex configuration, with a PC3000XC primary controller, and Pump Watch cellular auto dialer for SCADA.

KWDS, LLC dba Norton Landing is the owner of the project and accepted the preliminary design and budget. Romtec Utilities gave optional pricing for valve vault & generator to allow the owner to decide on the overall configuration based on price. The owner decided they were willing to spend extra money on the valve vault and generator. The system will also have a portable generator receptacle as power will not be available to the building when the lift station needs to be operational.

Harper, Houf, Peterson, Righellis (HHPR), Inc. was the civil engineer on the project. We have worked with HHPR on the Chenoweth Business Park, Eastside Sanitary Sewer, Grand Ronde Housing Authority, and Salem Hospital. Harper Houf Peterson Righellis Inc. provides civil and structural engineers, planners, landscape architects, and surveyors who offer comprehensive, integrated services out of Portland, Oregon.

Kohl, Inc. was the general contractor on this project while K&E installed the wastewater lift station. We have worked with K&E on a variety of projects including Dallas Church of Christ, Salem Hospital, Silverton High School, and VA SORCC. K&E Excavating, Inc. has been providing excavating and construction needs since 1998, out of Salem, Oregon.
