Orange County Water District – Sewer Lift Station Replacement
Project Description
The Orange County Water District needed to replace a wastewater lift station for the Burris Basin Pump Station in Anaheim, California. Burris Basin is a large groundwater pump station, pumping clean groundwater to 19 water districts in Southern California. This facility was completely rebuilt and needed a new wastewater pump station for the offices and facilities at the site. Due to limitations of the downstream treatment facilities, the new lift station had a maximum pumping limit of 50 GPM, so Romtec Utilities utilized Weil slicer pumps in a duplex configuration to handle the low-flow pumping rate. These pumps macerate any solids suspended in the water to ensure they pass through the 3” force main without clogging. Additionally, a below grade vault next to the wet well houses the operational valves for the lift station.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Tetra Tech, the engineering firm, contacted Romtec Utilities for the design of this wastewater lift station. The replacement of this lift station was part of the larger project of replacing the entire Burris Basin Pump Station. The larger project consisted of two phases, the first was the construction of a large earthen cofferdam around the existing system for uninterrupted operation while the replacement system was constructed during phase two. Romtec Utilities previously worked with Orange County Water District, the end owner, and we were able to get a design approved quickly to be specified as the lift station supplier. Pacific Hydrotech was awarded the installation of the wastewater lift station. Once the system was ready to start up, Romtec Utilities commissioned the system and provided onsite training for operating personnel.
