For this apartment wastewater pump station project, Romtec Utilities worked to provide the design and supply of a sewer pump station for a new apartment building in Portland, Oregon. The Halsey 28 Apartments needed a wastewater pump station for a new development that will provide 51 housing units in North Portland close to downtown.

Westech Construction brought us this project, with a quick turnaround time which we were able to deliver on as we designed, manufactured, and supplied the wastewater pump station for this residential apartment building.

Romtec Utilities partnered with the owners, general contractors, civil engineer, and installing contractor to bring this wastewater pump station to life for this apartment.

Portland, Oregon is known for its excellent food, coffee, and beer culture but also for its bikeable neighborhoods that are close to downtown. Portland is the largest city in the state of Oregon and borders Washington on the northwest corner of the state. The city has a variety of parks and open green spaces for recreation like Mt. Tabor Park, Laurelhurst Park, Washington Park, International Rose Test Garden, and Grant Park.

Halsey 28 apartments is located off of NE 28th Avenue and Halsey Street in the Sullivans Gulch neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. The apartments are minutes from the Oregon Convention Center, Moda Center, Willamette River, and downtown Portland.

The 51 new housing units include studios and 1-bedroom apartments with quartz and granite countertops and energy efficient windows. The apartments are close to Interstate 5 and Interstate 84 for quick access to the great Northwest along with many local breweries, specialty grocers, mass transit, coffee shops, stores, and restaurants.

The Halsey 28 apartments needed a new wastewater pump station as part of the project which Romtec Utilities designed, prefabricated, and supplied.

This wastewater pump station includes:

• precast 4-foot inner diameter x 17.5 feet deep wet well
• 3-inch in-well check valves
• stand-alone exterior isolation valves
• duplex 2hp Ebara submersible pumps
• alternator relay as primary controller
• NOLTA MS1 floats
• NEMA 4 painted steel enclosure.

The system can pump up to 51 gallons per minute with a total dynamic head of 18′.

SK Hoff was the general contractor of this apartment building. SK Hoff is a family-owned general contractor in the Portland market.

Humber Design Group was the civil engineer on this project. Humber is a civil engineer based in Portland, Oregon.

Westech Construction was the installing contractor of the wastewater pump station on behalf of SK Hoff. The company is based in Portland and provides demolition, underground utility construction, road construction, and shoring services.

What are apartment pumping environments like?

• The environment can be difficult with objects thrown into the wastewater system
• Large amounts of wastewater can still be produced in an apartment building
• Moving water to main sewer line or up elevation.

At Romtec Utilities, we design each system to meet the specific needs of the site, the project, and the pumping needs of the building. The engineers at Romtec Utilities work to design a system that can handle tougher pumping environments like apartments with large pumps or with duplex pump configurations like we did on this project to increase capacity, provide redundancy, with alternation to ensure long term use of the system and spread out the wear of the pumps.

Romtec Utilities handles a large portion of the manufacturing at our facility which makes for a quick and easy installation. Therefore, this passes on savings, time, and equipment needed for installation. Romtec Utilities start-up technicians go to the site upon installation to help ensure the system is installed according to the design. The start-up technicians provide commissioning of the system and training of the maintenance personnel on the controls and operations of the system. Any special alarms or monitoring will be reviewed with the customer.
