Romtec Utilities provided a regenerative thermal oxidizer lift station to an acrylonitrile styrene acrylate plant in Bayport, Texas. Acrylonitrile styrene acrylate is an amorphous thermoplastic developed as an alternative to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). This thermoplastic has improved weather resistance to ABS up to 10 times the resistance to weather, although the two are structurally similar, and it is often used for 3D printing in outdoor applications as well as in the automotive industry.

ASA is compatible with many other plastics and retains gloss, color, and other mechanical properties making it a useful material for applications such as outdoor siding, outdoor furniture, and construction. It is also resistance to long term heat and chemicals that can be found in alcohols and cleaning agents. INEOS Styrolution celebrated the groundbreaking of their acrylonitrile styrene acrylate in 2019, allowing for increased local supplies in the American market as soon as 2021.

The regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) lift station processes a wastewater stream that may have rubber particles in it. These particles will create odor and thus a powered venting system will be installed to draw any off gases. The header runs at slightly negative pressure to draw air but will not be imparting any significant force on the pump station.

Bayport, Texas is a large industrial district within the Bay Area of Greater Houston. The Trinity Bay sits just to the east of Bayport which is just southwest of La Porte, Texas. Houston is about 28 miles northwest of Bayport.

Texas Route 146 runs north and south next to Bayport.

This is a project with two pump stations for the INEOS Styrolution facility in Bayport, TX. Worley reached out to Romtec Utilities to bid on a small lift station for an industrial project in Bayport TX. Worley is an engineering services company that provides project delivery and consulting to resources and energy sectors, along with complex process industries.

Romtec Utilities put together a package system that met the criteria provided.

Romtec Utilities initially bid this project per-spec after which we went through multiple rounds of contract amendments, and value-engineering to ultimately receive approval to move forward.

INEOS Styrolution America LLC was the direct customer and owner of this facility that developed a new 100kt ASA (acrylonitrile styrene acrylate) plant that is next to their styrene monomer plant and close to raw materials. They are a global manufacturer of many different materials for sectors around the world. INEOS provides specialty chemicals, petro chemicals and oil products to the medical industry, packaging industry construction industry and much more. With 30 different businesses, and 173 facilities, INEOS employes over 25,000 people globally.

Romtec Utilities was proud to provide these two industrial pump stations for INEOS Styrolution facility in Bayport Texas at this chemical plant. It was important to this project to provide an RTO lift station that treated rubber particles in a wastewater stream. The RTO pump station features duplex 5 hp KSB submersible pumps.
