Trans Bay Cable – Stormwater Pump Stations for Converter Station
Project Description
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied two stormwater pump stations for a converter station in the City of Pittsburg, California. The two systems are necessary to supply collected stormwater to an onsite water treatment system before being discharged into the nearby bay. Ebara 7.5hp pumps were installed in duplex configurations inside fiberglass wet wells for leak detection capabilities. Discharge valves were installed directly in the wet wells for vertical discharge. Electrical controls were designed with alternator relays for this duplex pumping application with Nolta mechanical floats for level sensing. Alarm beacons and an annunciator on the controls will automatically notify onsite personnel of any problems with the systems and provide information regarding the issue.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities provided the design and supply of two stormwater pump stations for Trans Bay Cable in the City of Pittsburg, California. These systems handle medium flows of stormwater and discharge through an onsite treatment system before emptying into the bay to meet environmental standards. These pump stations were one aspect of Trans Bay Cable’s submarine HVDC cable project to provide better energy resources to San Francisco. Power Engineers, the site engineer working for Trans Bay Cable, worked with Romtec Utilities to design the systems according to the site. Once the pump station designs were completed and approved, the systems were launched into production to meet the short timeline of the project. Romtec Utilities prepared the fiberglass wet wells by prefabricating and installing the discharge manifolds prior to delivering the systems to shorten installation times. ARB, Inc., won the bid and successfully completed the installation of both systems. Romtec Utilities sent an install adviser to the job site to answer questions about the system during construction. Romtec then sent a start-up technician to commission the systems and provide testing and training services to onsite personnel.
