City of San Mateo – Urban Housing Development Lift Station
Project Description
After the historic Bay Meadows racetrack closed down, a large residential development began that required this large wastewater lift station. A triplex configuration of 30 hp Flygt pumps handles the high flow rates of this system. A blower system was provided as part of the lift station odor control specified by the City. The lift station electrical controls comprised a PLC, float control level-sensors, and a backup generator. The panel includes an Arc Armor® enclosure that provides safe access to low-voltage controls and separate access for high-voltage circuits.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Townsend Management, Inc. (TMI) and Romtec Utilities started this project prior to 2008 when the Bay Meadows racetrack was closed down. TMI represented the developer for the project. Due to the economic condition of 2008, the project was suspended until TMI contact Romtec Utilities saying that it was active again. Then Romtec Utilities worked with the selected contractor for the lift station installation, Preston Pipeline. The City of San Mateo and its engineering firm, ARUP, preferred a packaged lift station to meet the City’s standards. Romtec Utilities worked with Preston Pipeline and ARUP to design this lift station that would meet the City’s standards and the construction budget of Preston Pipeline.
