City of Puyallup – Abandoned Lift Station Retrofit
Project Description
A residential development project in 2008 needed a new lift station to handle medium flows of sewage from the houses. The development was put on hold, and in 2013, Romtec Utilities supplied equipment to make the lift station operational. To meet the new expected flow rates, 10 hp Flygt pumps were supplied for the existing duplex configuration. A new control panel and generator were supplied to replace electrical equipment that had been stripped of copper and vandalized. The new panel was a PLC controller wired for 480V, 3-phase power, and it used an ultrasonic transducer and a probe for primary and backup lever sensing, respectively. A Cummins Diesel generator was supplied with a sounds attenuated enclosure suitable for this residential application.

Why They Chose Romtec Utilities
Completed in 2009, this Romtec Utilities lift station was completely installed and never commissioned. The original development was abandoned after the economic downturn. Romtec Utilities was contacted in 2013 by Abbey Road Group, the site civil engineer, to complete the system. The developer, Soundbuilt Northwest, wanted to get the lift station completed to resume the residential development. Romtec Utilities worked with Abbey Road Group to evaluate the system and determine what needed replaced or repaired as some of the equipment had be vandalized. After a plan was developed, Romtec Utilities worked with Big Mountain Enterprises to complete what was effectively a retrofit of the existing system. Then, Romtec Utilities finally commissioned the system with onsite testing and training.
